eCharge™ filtration media describes a family of materials that incorporate electrostatic charge as part of their filtration strategy. So what does this mean for you? The electric charge present on the fiber’s surface creates enhanced filtration efficiencies for smaller particles that ordinarily would have escaped capture if not for the filter media’s charge (Learn more about this phenomenon at Thermo.TV).

Charge Creation

The triboelectric charge is created by placing two materials with opposite dielectric properties in contact so that they exchange ions. Once separated, a charge imbalance exists between the two materials. The ionic disequilibrium creates a strong electric field on the surface of the filter media and it’s this field that creates an attractive force for small particles (carrying an opposite charge) from an incoming airstream.

Very small particles that travel through a filtration medium often time escape capture by way of more traditional filtration mechanisms such as mechanical interception of inertial impaction. However, the incorporation and the utilization of a triboelectric filtration media can significantly increase a filter’s ability to capture particulate with very fine diameters (0.05µ to 5µ).
