ThermoPore’s PolyMesh™ filtration media carries loads of potential for number of liquid and air filtration applications. In its simplest form, PolyMesh™ is a patented, thermally bonded, non-woven media. Trapped within this resin free non-woven matrix, however, are any number of functional solids that can bring added value to a seemingly simple non-woven structure.
Particulate Options
The inclusion of a solid particulate into a non-woven matrix offer many opportunities for your next development project. Let’s start with a few of the particles that can be brought into the non-woven matrix: Activated Carbon, Treated Carbon, Zeolite, and Potassium Permanganate. Each additive offers its own features and benefits but the point to understand here is the flexibility to PolyMesh™ affords your development project. Solid loadings ranging from 100 grams per square meter up to 800 grams per square meter can be realized within the PolyMesh™ matrix. Even better, the resin-free entrapment of particles eliminates occlusion (the covering of a particles surface). You'll get better performance and longer service life from your particulate with PolyMesh™ resin-free technology.
Fiber Options
In the same way that you have particulate loading options with the PolyMesh™ material, you also have the freedom to create fiber blends from any number of commercially available fibers for use in the non-woven mat. Fibers that are often utilized in the non-woven mat can be categorized as structural fibers or functional fibers. Structural fibers are used to provide the non-woven with integrity, strength, and/or stiffness. Functional fibers, on the other hand, are incorporated into the fiber blend to satisfy non-structural related functions. As an example, a hydrophilic fiber might be added to enhance wick rates, a very fine denier fiber might be added to enhance filtration efficiency, or a crimped fiber might be included to increase the mat's void volume (% air).
The selection of an appropriate fiber blend and particulate blend are critical to your project’s success. There are literally hundreds of possibilities that lie at your disposal, but there is only one ThermoPore that can help you make sense of the options.
